Mindfully Parenting Teens

Integrating Everyday Mindfulness Practice into Our Family Relationships

Tuesday | October 10, 2017

8:15-9:15 a.m.

Please join us for a conversation with Shelly Sowell, M.Ed., LPCC, Integrative Counselor and Consultant.

Parenting from a place of mindfulness, or present moment awareness, helps us to see clearly what our kids are experiencing and how to help them process & navigate a complex world.  When parents embody mindful awareness, they model a healthy way of being in the world and help teens to feel connected, safe and calm.  From this place families communicate and support from a growth-oriented way of being.

Mindfulness practices have been proven to help reduce stress, increase attention and concentration, increase one’s ability to empathize with others and help to deal with difficult thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness-based parenting skills help parents to stay connected to their children (of any age) throughout every developmental stage and to deepen their relationships during the challenges of parenthood.

This talk will:

  • introduce mindfulness-based parenting foundations,

  • explain how being a mindful parent helps to create more balance in the home,

  • and offer participants a practice that they can immediately use in their everyday lives for more connected, sustainable and inspired parenting.
